Color Harmony-Devante Owens

I was a bit confused by the instructions of this exercise so I just did the best I could.  I tried to focus on using warm analogous colors for skin but cool colors for the eye.  I hope this fits the requirements.  I enjoyed messing around with the color but I found that my paper really did not like the additional layers of paint.  It started to warp quite a bit and caused me some trouble when I tried making smooth strokes.  Eye

  1. This is very impressive. I have tried to draw eyes before and it is very difficult let alone painting one. Your detail is amazing along with your color choices I really like this a lot. I like that you got the glare of light on the pupil and the multi color blending within in the pupil. This is amazing great job! My only feed back is that the whites of the eye might use more red or vanes just so it isn’t completely white. I do see some red but more might make it not so drawing to the eye because it is a bright white color. Great job though!

    • Thanks for the kind words and I think that’s a great idea putting veins in. I think that would definitely add to the piece. Maybe I’ll mess with it some more.

  2. Wow! This piece is amazing to me! Your strokes and color blending are superb. I was actually waiting for the eye to blink! I would love to know if you used a live model, photograph, or just your own creativity. Excellent work combining something fun with a color exercise!!

    • Thanks so much for the compliment. I did most of it from my head but I could get it to look alive because my reflection was weird. In the end, I used a reference photo for the reflection and I think it really helped.

  3. Analogous colors are any three colors which are side by side on a 12 part color wheel, such as yellow-green, yellow, and yellow-orange. For this exercise you can choose up to 5 colors. You are very close.
Blue is predominant in your image. So next colors should be Blue-Green, Green, Yellow-Green and Yellow. No Red or Orange.

Hope this comment is helpful. Your painting looks good though. Very nice close up!
